KPM in Top 10 not only due to its age!

The fact that Košice Peace Marathon stands on the top position in Europe due to its history is year by year repeated truth. The fact that in 2010 it became also a part of European Top 10 due to sport results is what result lists of great marathons approve. According to preliminary information Košice Peace Marathon with its 2010 course record stands on the 8th position in Europe behind such giants as London, Berlin, Paris, Rotterdam and overtook marathons in e.g. Rome, Madrid, Zürich, Hamburg, Milano or Vienna.
Even the season is not over yet Košice should not fall out of this elite group. Organizers thank to all who were in any way helpful in organization and contributed to overall success spiced with great athletic results.

For marathon itself 1000 runners are expected, for half-marathon nearly 1500. First record is there in terms of participation, but organisers are hoping for attacks at the course records. The interest rises steeply

Interesting information is provided to the organizes of the Kosice Peace Marathon by their registration software. On 30 June 2009, the first registration closing date, when participants could still take advantage of a favorable entry fee, 1.152 athletes registered for the oldest European marathon’s main categories. It is a 67 % accrual in comparison with the same period in 2008. Even if this trend probably slows down a little, the organizers optimistically expect more then 4000 participants in all categories on this year’s KPM. And some motivational news are still to be announced during this hot summer.

Firehiwot Dado

Just a few months later after her first marathon debut in Kosice, Firehiwot Dado, from Ethiopia has become famous thanks to her great performance in Roma. Surely you would remember her - the very thin and humble athlete, who ran her very first marathon in Kosice and ended up in the second position 2:37:34.

In the marathon which took place in the Ethernal city on the 22nd of March Firehiwot managed to cut down her maximum by 10 minutes and crossed the finish line first with the time of 2:27:08! She proved not only her positive talent but also the fact that participants of the Kosice marathon do usually well in their future career (Dejene Yirdawe ended up second in Soul). If Firehiwot had had more confidence in herself last October Peterkova's record from 1989 could have been finally exceeded.
