The idea of including half distance race into the Kosice Peace Marathon started up more than a decade ago. It took root immediately and lead to a successful candidacy to hold the 6th IAAF World Halfmarathon Championship in 1997. In its current form the half-marathon has a clear goal - to offer an alternative to for those who do indeed run, but 42.195 m is for them a little `more than they can chew`. n the other hand the half-marathon is geared also towards runners who do have some experience with the marathon, but have gone wrong in training or other reasons have stopped them from taking part in the full marathon distance. We are pleased that the number of participants in this catagory increases year by year and more girls and women appear at the starting line. We trust that soon they will also bravely tick off `marathon` on their applications.
