On October 4, 2020, the oldest marathon in Europe received another important award from the World Athletics association in the form of the World Athletics Heritage Plaque for an extraordinary contribution to the development of athletics in the context of its global history.
Among the previous recipients of this award are such personalities as Emil Zátopek, Paavo Nurmi, Jesse Owens or Abebe Bikila, among marathon competitions, for example, the one in Boston.
This honor belongs to the founding fathers and all generations of organizers and supporters of the MMM phenomenon. Thank you for this injection of positive energy that came at the right time.

On September 30, 2023, on the eve of the 100th Košice Peace Marathon, the organizers of the event unveiled a bronze adaptation of the World Athletics Heritage Plaque, re-honoring this award, which marathon in Košice already received in 2020.
